Designer Gene 'the machine' Hickerson had this to say:

V8-  This is our medium small pin designed for loamy tracks. The extra spacing allows the pins to dig in and clear out. In a harder compound it also works well on multi surface blue grooves by mellowing out the steering and response. This makes the buggy very easy to drive resulting in more consistent lap times. Compare to Impact, Blockade, and Kosmos.
